Since mid-January, the Josef Wund Foundation’s mobile teaching pool “Wundine I” has been stationed in Ingersheim. Until the end of March, 136 children aged four to nine enjoy 90 minutes of water-based learning each week at the parking area of Fischerwörth Hall. This will be followed by an intensive program during the Easter holidays. During an on-site visit on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, members of the Ingersheim Municipal Council had the opportunity to experience the compact mobile swimming facility firsthand.
The mobile teaching pool provides ideal conditions for introducing children to the water in a fun, safe, and engaging way. During the mornings, primary school classes use the pool, while in the afternoons it is reserved for children from eight local daycare centers. Six sessions are held each day, with six children participating in each session.
“Being able to swim not only saves lives, it also enables children to participate in leisure activities such as visits to outdoor pools and lakes,” says Christoph Palm, Chairman of the Josef Wund Foundation. “However, fewer and fewer children are becoming confident swimmers. There is a shortage of swimming facilities and qualified instructors, while the journey to the nearest indoor pool is often too long. This is where our Wundine Swimming Academy comes in: In addition to providing our mobile teaching pool, we also supply qualified swimming instructors to local communities. Since 2022, we have introduced around 4,000 children to the water and the fundamentals of swimming. The consistently high demand from municipalities across Baden-Württemberg confirms the importance of our work.”
Mayor Simone Lehnert was equally impressed by the Foundation’s commitment and the children’s first visible achievements: “With the mobile swimming pool, we are giving children aged four to nine the opportunity to learn to swim at an early age. Swimming is not only a sporting skill but also a vital life skill that provides safety, builds self-confidence, and can save lives in emergencies. Bringing this program directly to Ingersheim for three months is a tremendous benefit for our community and for local families.”

“Wundine on Wheels” is a project by the Josef Wund Foundation that brings mobile teaching pools to schools and daycare centers, making it easier for children to learn how to swim. The pools, measuring six meters in length and two meters in width, are specifically designed for water familiarization and beginner swimming courses. The Foundation currently operates four of these mobile teaching pools in cooperation with partners including the State of Baden-Württemberg, local municipalities, and the Württemberg State Sports Association (WLSB). Around 4,000 children have participated in the Josef Wund Foundation’s mobile swimming programs over the past three years.
