Sustainability in Sports Deserves Recognition

Climate action and sustainability have long become integral parts of sports. More and more sports clubs across Baden-Württemberg are investing in energy-efficient infrastructure, resource-saving solutions, and sustainable mobility, thereby taking responsibility far beyond their sporting activities. To highlight and encourage this commitment, the Josef Wund Foundation supports the "Climate Action and Sustainability" category of the WLSB Sports Foundation's Club Award. This year marked the second time that the WLSB Sports Foundation presented the award sponsored by the Josef Wund Foundation. On behalf of the Foundation, Dr. Heiko Schmid and Andreas Schaffer presented the awards.

The award-winning clubs demonstrate impressively how diverse approaches to climate action and sustainability can be—and how much impact can already be achieved through practical local initiatives.

The main award was presented to Sportvg Feuerbach. The club pursues a comprehensive sustainability strategy and sets new standards for organized sports through its use of renewable energy, energy-efficient infrastructure, intelligent water management, sustainable mobility, and an extensive climate management program.

Recognition Awards were presented to SV Pfahlheim and Heilbronner Rudergesellschaft "Schwaben".
SV Pfahlheim has firmly embedded sustainability into everyday club life through initiatives such as biomass district heating, energy-efficient lighting, a resource-saving irrigation system, and numerous activities that encourage members to adopt sustainable practices.

Heilbronner Rudergesellschaft "Schwaben" impressed the jury with its almost energy self-sufficient boathouse, sustainable timber construction, photovoltaic system, heat pump, rainwater harvesting, and an overall concept that combines environmental and social responsibility.

These award-winning projects clearly demonstrate that sports clubs can play an important role in promoting the responsible use of energy, water, and other natural resources. Through their commitment, they help establish climate action and sustainability as integral parts of club life while inspiring other clubs to follow their example.

The Josef Wund Foundation warmly congratulates all award-winning clubs and sincerely thanks the WLSB Sports Foundation for its trusted partnership. Together, we are committed to strengthening and showcasing sustainable engagement in sports.
