The Josef Wund Foundation was founded by the architect and entrepreneur Josef Wund. In his sense, it provides impulses for social progress and supports committed people with creative, unusual solution approaches for central challenges of our time. The focus is on projects in the areas of education, health and creativity. The topic of water plays a superordinate role.

Profile

The Josef Wund Foundation is managed in the legal form of a non-profit GmbH i.L. with its seat in Stuttgart. The successor will be the Josef Wund Foundation under civil law, which will be established in February 2026. The foundation was founded in 2015 by the successful architect and entrepreneur Josef Wund, with the aim of letting society participate in his economic success and setting valuable impulses. Water became the leitmotif of the foundation.

Founder

Josef Wund, December 1938 to December 2017 The entrepreneurial success was not given to our founder Josef Wund in his cradle. Until his tragic death in a plane crash in December 2017, the native Friedrichshafener worked for over six decades with diligence, idea richness and economic skill, laying stone on stone.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees advises the shareholders' meeting and the management of the Josef Wund Foundation gGmbH on strategic and corporate policy fundamental questions and represents the interests of the foundation externally.

Guidelines

We make a constructive contribution to solving the pressing questions of our time. What resources are available to us today and to future generations, and how can we protect and preserve them? How do we deal with scarce goods and the adversities of life? Who is willing to take responsibility for themselves and others? What holds our society together and how do people deal with the great individual freedoms in a responsible manner?

Principles

The Josef Wund Foundation acts according to funding principles that are in line with the founder's will and the funding guidelines. These funding principles are mandatory for all funded institutions and persons. A few aspects are listed here.

Sustainability in Sports Deserves Recognition

Climate action and sustainability have long become integral parts of sports. More and more sports clubs across Baden-Württemberg are investing in energy-efficient infrastructure, resource-saving solutions, and sustainable mobility, thereby taking responsibility far beyond their sporting activities. To highlight and encourage this commitment, the Josef Wund Foundation supports the "Climate Action and Sustainability" category of the WLSB Sports Foundation's Club Award. This year marked the second time that the WLSB Sports Foundation presented the award sponsored by the Josef Wund Foundation. On behalf of the Foundation, Dr. Heiko Schmid and Andreas Schaffer presented the awards.

Josef Wund Foundation Supports Water Research in Baden-Württemberg with €40,000 for Scientific Workshops

The Josef Wund Foundation from Stuttgart is supporting water research in Baden-Württemberg with €40,000. The funding will support three scientific workshops hosted by the Universities of Freiburg, Karlsruhe (KIT), and Stuttgart, aimed at connecting early-career researchers and generating new research momentum.

Undine Award 2026: Josef Wund Foundation Honors Groundbreaking Projects Focused on Water

With the fifth presentation of the Undine Award, the Josef Wund Foundation once again honored people and projects that open up new perspectives on water through creativity, commitment, and innovation. Around 150 guests gathered at Café am See NIL in Stuttgart to celebrate the award winners and exchange ideas on current challenges and opportunities surrounding the vital resource of water.

Wundine II Mobile Swimming Pool Visits Lake Tegernsee

Our mobile swimming pool, Wundine II, is making a stop at Lake Tegernsee this spring. In Bad Wiessee, we had the opportunity to present our concept to the President of the Bavarian State Parliament, Ilse Aigner, Member of the Bavarian State Parliament (MdL), and the Bavarian Minister of Health, Judith Gerlach, Member of the Bavarian State Parliament (MdL).

Children Become Young Scientists

Children are naturally curious and eager to explore the world around them. To nurture their spirit of discovery and introduce them to scientific thinking and learning, the Academy for Scientific Continuing Education (AWW) at Weingarten University of Education has been serving as a regional network partner of the Stiftung Kinder forschen (Children Research Foundation) since 2022. The Josef Wund Foundation, together with the Ravensburg District Community Foundation, supports the network with annual funding of €50,000.

"Wundine I" Mobile Swimming Pool in Ingersheim

Since mid-January, the Josef Wund Foundation’s mobile teaching pool “Wundine I” has been stationed in Ingersheim. Until the end of March, 136 children aged four to nine enjoy 90 minutes of water-based learning each week at the parking area of Fischerwörth Hall. This will be followed by an intensive program during the Easter holidays. During an on-site visit on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, members of the Ingersheim Municipal Council had the opportunity to experience the compact mobile swimming facility firsthand.
